What We'll Cover in the 90-Minute Workshop
The Arab Daughter’s Double Life is a 90-minute live workshop hosted by Micheline Maalouf, exploring what happens when Arab daughters learn to become different versions of themselves in order to maintain belonging, avoid conflict, or meet family and cultural expectations. This therapist-led experience offers culturally grounded, non-religious somatic tools to understand how secrecy, guilt, identity conflict, and self-protection can live in the body, and how to begin building more choice around authenticity without rejecting your culture or losing connection to the people you love.
Part 1: Setting the Container
We’ll begin by orienting to the space and setting clear expectations so your nervous system can settle. Camera and sharing are optional, and nothing will be asked of you without consent.
Part 2: Understanding the Arab Daughter’s Double Life
You’ll learn why many Arab daughters become skilled at compartmentalizing different parts of themselves depending on who they are with. We’ll explore family expectations, reputation, guilt, secrecy, emotional surveillance, belonging, and the fear of disappointing or becoming unrecognizable to the people you love.
We’ll also look at how constantly monitoring what can be said, shown, or expressed can shape identity, relationships, boundaries, and your ability to know what you actually want.
Part 3: Gentle Somatic Exploration
You’ll be guided through accessible, culturally grounded somatic practices to notice what happens in your body when you imagine being seen, disappointing someone, saying no, revealing something about yourself, or making a choice that may not be understood by your family.
Movements are slow, optional, and adaptable seated or standing. This is not about forcing vulnerability or disclosure. It is about understanding the protective patterns your nervous system developed and creating more space for choice, self-trust, and authenticity.
Part 4: Integration
We’ll pause to integrate what was experienced and connect it to everyday life, relationships, family dynamics, boundaries, and identity. You’ll leave with language and awareness to better understand when you are choosing privacy versus when you are hiding yourself out of fear.
Part 5: Live Q&A (30 minutes)
Non-transferable or refundable.
